Making
a Decoction of herbs requires a little more effort
then making an infusion. Infusions are made when using
flowers or leaves of a plant. However,
if you want to use the bark, seed, or root
of a plant it is necessary to use a stronger method
of water extraction - a Decoction.
To make one
cup of herbal tea, you need one small handful of
the herb or herb mix if it is fresh (always
the best) or one heaped teaspoon if it is dry
and one mug of cold water. If you want to make
three cups use 25 grams of the herb to 3/4
of a litre of cold water. Place the herb in a
saucepan and cover with cold water. Bring to the boil,
and then turn the heat down a little and simmer for
10 - 15 minutes. Strain first, and drink while it
is still hot.
Another way
of making a Decoction is the the cold method..................................
