  Flower Remedies

Flower Essences have a very long history spanning many cultures. The use of a flowers for the purpose of healing was always seen by Aborigines as a pleasurable rite. They certainly knew of many flowers that could be used for resolving specific emotional imbalances. A number of other cultures, including the Egyptian and African, used flowers to treat emotional states and imbalances. Though there is European folklore on the healing power of flowers that dates back to at least medieval times, the earliest recorded use of flower essences occurred in the 16th century when the great healer and mystic Paracelsus collected the dew from flowers to treat his patients’ emotional imbalances. It would appear that the knowledge of the flower essences was largely lost during the last few centuries, especially in the Western World, but to some degree even amongst the Aborigines. However, the modern pioneer of flower essences, Dr Edward Bach (1886-1936) brought flower remedies back into use. His understanding of plants and their properties came into being just long enough before our time of greater awareness to enable people to become familiar with the concept of flower essences and their unique form of healing. Today Rescue Remedy is used worldwide.

Australia is regarded as possessing, along with Brazil, the highest number of flowering plants in the world. Australian plants are very distinctive as many have prickly foliage, an adaptation to the arid areas in which they grow. Those with hardened leaves are known as sclerophylls. Also there is a very peculiar scent that emanates from the Australian bush and it has a wonderful inherent beauty and strength, and there are always a great many plants in flower, no matter what the season. You can go through the bush in the middle of winter and still see a blaze of colour from the myriad flowers, mingled with the stark and also subtle hues of their surroundings. Ian White is the pioneer of Australian Bush Flower Essences which I have found to have profound results. Today there are many flower essences being made worldwide.
