Moxibustion
This
is a process whereby a dried herb (usually Artemisia
vulgaris (common name Mugwort) is burned, directly or
indirectly on the skin over specific acupuncture points.
When lit, moxa burns slowly and produces a deep penetrating
heat that can enter the meridian channels to influence
Qi and Blood flow. Moxibustion is wonderful for sprains,
traumas and injuries. In addition, it stimulates and
supports the immunity of the body and eliminates cold
and damp, thus promoting normal functioning of the organs.
It can be used all over the body and the safest method
is using it indirectly with a moxa stick. It is useful
for many many conditions and is useful over any body
part (except the liver which is already too prone to
heat), and where there is tension, soreness, ache, arthritis,
cramps or spasms or any type of blockage, and when healing
is not occurring. It should not be used on pregnant
women or over any inflammation or infection, or when
fever is present.
