and digestion, reduces bloating and pain, and helps
alleviate depression. Also used in the treatment of
iron-deficiency anaemia, fainting, dizzy spells, and
improves the eyesight.
Lung: Effective in treating oedema, night sweats,
skin disease, laryngitis, enteritis, and diarrhoea.
This point regulates body temperature and promotes circulation
of oxygenated blood.
Stomach: For all stomach and digestive problems
including stomach ulcers, flatulence, acid, nausea,
vomiting, bloating, and stomach pain.
Clinical
effects of acupuncture in the treatment of addiction
include relaxation, reduced stress levels, reduced craving,
reduction of withdrawal symptoms, calming of the nervous
system thereby reducing irritability, restlessness,
headache, anxiety, impatience, impulsive thoughts, non
specific physical pains, insomnia and depression. It
also helps to clear the mind and have an increased sense
of purpose, and improves the appetite and energy. This
effect is not substance specific and so therefore can
be used on a wide variety of addictions and also in
the general clearing of toxins from our bodies. Treatment
remains active from 48-96 hours, however in acute opiate
withdrawal, needling should be done 2-3 times a day.
Acupuncture is a non-verbal type of therapy. Verbal
interactions can be quite flexible so that a patient
who does not feel like talking can be accommodated easily
and naturally. Words and verbal relationships are not
necessary components of this treatment.
