"The Encyclopedia of Herbal Medicine" by Thomas Bartram, published by Grace Publishers, ISBN 0-9515984-1-4, first published 1995. The most invaluable reference book on the herbal treatment of disease that you are ever likely to discover.

"Herbal Remedies" by Christopher Hedley and Non Shaw, published by Parragon ISBN 0-7525-0093-7, first published 1996. This is a wonderful book on the practical side of herbal medicine. How to make lotions and potions and creams etc. from readily available ingredients that you would have in your kitchen.

"Childbearing Year" by Susan Weed, published by Ash Tree Publishing ISBN 0-9614620-0-0, first published 1986. This is the book I recommend to all pregnant women and it shows us how herbs can support the natural functions of pregnancy and childbirth in such a way that we are empowered to take responsibility for our own well-being. It has many valuable insights as well as highly useable information.

"Menopausal Years" by Susan Weed, published by Ash Tree Publishing ISBN 0-9614620-4-3, first published 1992. This book brings together all the dimensions of going through the menopause, from meditations and quick fixes for hot flushes, natural ways to keep your mood cool, your heart healthy, and your bones strong.

"Food for Free" by Richard Mabey, published by Collins ISBN 0-00-219865-7, first published in 1972. A wonderful field guide to collecting wild foods including nuts, fruit, flowers, berries, seaweeds, fungi and shellfish with its own field identification notes and illustrations.

"A Modern Herbal" by Mrs M. Grieve, published by Tiger Books International, ISBN 1-85501-249-9, first published 1931. This was the first comprehensive encyclopaedia of herbs of its time and it still retains the teaching of the older herbalists whilst its information now is still valid and a heroic piece of work with recipes, botany, history, cultivation, and botanical line drawings.

"The Most Radical Gesture" by Sadie Plant, published by Routledge ISBN 0-415-06222-5, first published in 1992. This book is the first major study of the Situationist International. Tracing the history, ideas, and influences of this radical and inspiring movement from dada to post-modernism, it argues that situationist ideas on art, revolution, everyday life and the spectacle continue to inform a variety of the most urgent political events, cultural movements, and theoretical debates of our times.

"Sacred Mirrors" The Visionary Art of Alex Grey published by Inner Traditions International ISBN 0-89281-814-8, first published 1990. Some exceptional art work on the human body and spirit.

"Artificial Paradises" An Anthology edited by Mike Jay, with over 100 excerpts of stories, first published in 1999 by Penguin Books, ISBN 0-14-118115-X. This anthology reveals the diverse roles mind-altering drugs have played throughout history. It brings together a multiplicity of voices to explore the presence - both secret and public - of drugs in the overlapping dialogues of science and religion, pleasure and madness, individualism and social control.

"DiY Culture" Party & Protest in Nineties Britain, first published in 1998 by Verso Publishers. ISBN 1-85984-260-7, edited by George McKay. This is a collection of writings offering an insight into the DIY Culture by bridging most of the 1990's underground movements in Britain.

"The Hepatitis C Handbook" by Matthew Dolan, published by Catalyst Press, first in 1996. ISBN 0-9529509-2-8. This book is the only one of its kind, explaining clearly what Hepatitis C actually is, and through some serious researching, offering information on all the latest available treatments, from conventional to alternative, and a large section on life style changes and self-care suggestions. This is a seriously informative book.

"Two Hundred Pharaohs, Five Billion Slaves" by Adrian Peacock, published by Ellipsis in 2002. ISBN 1-84166-071-X. This massively researched underground classic was first published in 1999 and has been plagiarised by would -be youth-movement leaders ever since. This book launches itself from the point at which the Situationist International of the 1960s left off by examining the rise of International Bourgeoise and the creation of their world of intense leisure shopping.

"Traditional Chinese Medicine - a guide to its practice" - by Ray Tiquia, first published in 1996 by Choice Books. ISBN 0-947277-20-X. This book explains the fundamental principles of all the Chinese disciplines and goes onto explain, in a clear and easy-to-follow style, how each practice operates.

"A Woman's Book of Herbs" by Elisabeth Brooke, published by the Women's Press ISBN 0-7043-4296-0, first published 1992. Laid out astrologically, the herbal information presented here is very interesting ranging from their medicinal to their magical uses.

"Women Healers through History" by Elisabeth Brooke, published by the Women's Press ISBN 0-7043-4324-X, first published 1993. The author has a great understanding of the politics of medicine, and fused with her appreciation of the powers of myth versus those of technology, she has produced an inspiring book.

"Plants of the Gods" by Richard Evans Schultes and Albert Hoffman, published by Healing Arts Press, ISBN 0-89281-406-3, first published 1992. In this book, the world's most renowned authorities on psychoactive flora provide a fascinating and moving testimony of these "plants of the gods", tracing their use throughout the world and their significance in shaping history and culture.

"Taoist Secrets of Love - cultivating male sexual energy" - by Mantak Chia and Michael Winn, First published in 1984 by Aurora Press. ISBN: 0-943358-19-1. The ancient sexual secrets, practices and exercises of Taoist sages.

"The Little Prince" by Antoine De Saint-Exupery, published by Mammoth ISBN 0-7497-0723-2, first published in 1945. A story of a pilot forced to land in the Sahara who meets a little prince. The wise and enchanting stories the prince tells of his own planet with its three volcanoes and a haughty flower are unforgettable.
